Tips and Tricks - Word

Format Painter

When you have a word or paragraph formatted perfectly, use Format Painter to "paint" the style, font format, and paragraph format to other paragraphs.

You can apply the format to one contiguous item or to several.

To Use Format Painter on Contiguous Items:

  • Select the word or paragraph that has the format you want.

  • Click the Format Painter button in the Standard Toolbar (it looks like a paint brush, with yellow bristles)
  • The mouse pointer will turn into a paint brush.
  • Select the word or paragraph to format.

To Use Format Painter on Non-Contiguous Items:

  • Select the word or paragraph that has the format you want.

  • Click the Format Painter button TWICE in the Standard Toolbar.
  • The mouse pointer will turn into a paint brush.
  • Select the words or paragraphs to format, regardless of their location in your document.
